What is an Award going to involve in time and money?
The main costs involved will be the cost of registering with GLPQ and the GSCC, the cost of tuition fees (if you are working through an accredited course route), the cost of employing a mentor and portfolio assessment (Supported Learning
route). In addition, you will need to allow for travelling costs and the cost of resources and materials. The list is not exhaustive – the actual costs involved will vary for every individual – and it is a good idea to build costing into your initial planning. Bursaries may be available to assist with some of the costs involved.
You will need to consider the practical implications of undertaking an Award very carefully. Fees payable for registration and portfolio assessment are included with the GLPQ Registration Pack. Fees for accredited courses are generally set by the course provider.
You will need to consider how the Award will fit into your overall career plan and what it will mean in terms of time, money and effort.
You should speak to your employer and find out what support is available for continuing professional development. You will also need to consider your family commitments, study environment and support needs.
As the framework is changing, it advisable to complete your studies by the end of 2007 and submit your claims for your completed awards by September 2008. |
