How do I decide which of the PQ Awards is the right one for me?

In order to assess which Award is appropriate, you will need to consider the requirements identified for each Award and relate them to your current experience.

The Post Qualifying Award in Social Work (PQSW) gives recognition to social workers who have:

* developed the full range of competencies required of a social worker
* shown competence in work of increasing complexity
* taken responsibility for the learning and practice of others.

For detailed information about the PQSW Award, see PQSW Requirements

The Advanced Award in Social Work (AASW) gives recognition at a higher level to social workers who have:

* acquired significant practice experience and expertise
* made a significant contribution to service development, delivery and evaluation
* demonstrated the skills and capacity for leadership.

For detailed information about the AASW Award, see AASW Requirements

The level of your past or intended studies, together with the level and length of your work experience, will determine which is the appropriate Award for you.

Normally, registration for the PQSW requires you to have two years’ social work experience and registration for the AASW requires you to have ‘significant’ (usually considered to be about five years) social work experience.
